Measures to prevent further incident involving paper shredders
After two incidents in March and July of this year (2006), in which children's' fingers were severed by paper shredders, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) urged the Japan Business Machine and Information System Industries Association (JBMIA) and the All Japan Stationery Association (AJSA) on August 23, 2006, to promptly consider preventative measures. This is a reminder from NITE issued for the purpose of protecting children from similar accidents.
Do not allow children to operate paper shredders, and keep them away from the machines when in use.

There were 2 incidents this year in which children's fingers were severed by paper shredders.
- On March 10, in the home, a child (2 years 8 months) caught both hands in a paper shredder manufactured by Iris Ohyama Inc., and lost 9 fingers when the parent left the child unsupervised.
