- Release date:
- September 3, 2009
- Title:
- Prevention of sudden boiling (bumping) accidents during cooking
- Publisher:
- Product Safety Technology Center
- Summary:
- Among the product accident information reported to NITE, there were 16 issues of sudden boiling (bumping) of drinks and etc while cooking between April 2006 and August 2009 (*1). These bumping accidents have been occurred during heating or after heated with kitchen microwaves, IH stoves, and gas stoves. In the last July, there had an accident that caused serious injuries due to sudden boiling while heating hot-water by the IH stove. Number of accidents of sudden boiling reported to NITE is not so many, however, frequency of use of kitchen microwaves, IH stoves, and gas stoves at home is very high, thus there has been a possibility of occurrence of sudden boiling accidents in reality. Because the causes that incur such sudden boiling are not well-known at home, NITE had decided to promote consumers’ awareness for prevention of accidents with sudden boiling.
- *1: Duplicated and/or non-target information are excluded from the number of issues as of August 25st, 2009.
